Some Examples of Our Work

Radio communications for bushfire management

Roads and Crossing upgrades for prescribed burning

Optias wrote the business case in support of the  investment in upgrading radio communications from analogue to digital. We also demonstrated that most major fires started in radio blackspots, justifying the removal of such blackspots.

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) manages the Strategic Road Network (SRN) comprising 10,064 km of roads and tracks, and 889 bridges and crossings connected to critical assets.  This network is essential for accessing DEECA land for prescribed burning and fire suppression but the roads and crossings were not in safe condition. This business case supported upgrades which made the roads and crossings safe for fire fighters and their equipment.

Australia's Health 2040

South Gippsland Highway realignment

Optias participated in the Australia’s Health 2040 cross-disciplinary taskforce facilitated by Global Access Partners and chaired by Martin Bowles AO PSM. Its final report outlined 19 reform options for the Australian health system to ensure a more sustainable future. Optias proposed an enhanced focus on training healthcare workers in using telehealth to generate improved health outcomes for their patients. This is now a training program with microcredentials offered by Sydney University (see here for brochure) and distributed by Inaltor.

The Victyorian Government realigned a stretch of the South Gippsland Highway between Koonwarra and Meeniyan, locally known as the Black Spur. The Australian and Victorian Government invested $115.2 million to realign the highway and make it easier and safer for road users to travel through the area. Optias wrote the business case for this project.

Strategic Plan for the National Road Safety Partnership Program

Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre

The National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) is a collaborative network to support Australian businesses in developing a positive road safety culture. The NRSPP is hosted and delivered by Monash University Accident Research Centre. More than 120 of Australia’s largest corporations, Australian federal, state and local governments and agencies are partners of the NRSPP. Optias guided the process of developing the initial strategic plan which has been very successfully implemented.

Darebin Council is investing $63.5M to ensure Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre will continue to service the community for the next 50 years. This investment will ensure Darebin residents have access to a range of contemporary aquatic and leisure services and programs in a state of the art and environmentally sustainable facility. WQithout upgrades NARC was losing members. Optias wrote the business case for this investment and demonstrated clearly that encouraging more people to use NARC would result in improved health outcomes with important social and health benefits.
